Supporting the Next Generation of Military Engineers at 3 RSME Regiment

Earlier this month, the Viking Arms Defence team visited 3 Royal School of Military Engineering Regiment (3 RSME Regt) at Gibraltar Barracks, Minley, to deliver a hands-on equipment experience for the British Armys next generation of Sappers.

3 RSME Regt plays a critical role in delivering combat engineer training, junior command development, and wider support to the Royal Engineers shaping soldiers who will be vital to the success of future operations. The Regiments mission is clear: to produce well-trained and highly motivated military engineers ready to meet the operational demands of Defence.

As part of our ongoing commitment to community engagement and improving defence understanding, Viking Arms Defence was proud to provide a practical demonstration of the Glock range of pistols and showcase some of the latest defence equipment in our offering. Sappers had the opportunity to get hands-on with the Glock platform on the range and discuss its functionality, performance, and role within wider operational capabilities.

This visit formed part of our wider programme of direct engagement with units across the UK Armed Forces. By connecting with those at the frontline of training and operations, were able to ensure that our solutions align with real-world needs and help to inform procurement, capability development, and defence readiness.

Thursday 8 May 2025 marks a momentous occasion80 years since Victory in Europe (VE Day) and the end of the Second World War in Europe. A few months later, on Friday 15 August, we mark Victory Over Japan (VJ Day), the moment when peace was finally restored to the world following Japans surrender. Together, these milestones commemorate the official end of WWII and the beginning of a new era of freedom.

At Viking Arms, we are proud to support this years VE and VJ Day 80 commemorations, which honour not only the fallen but also the few living veterans who remain with us todaymen and women whose courage and sacrifice shaped the free world we know today.

Viking Arms, the UK distributor for SmartShooter, will be showcasing the SMASH 3000 fire control system at Security and Policing 2025. As the latest advancement in SmartShooters cutting-edge targeting technology, the SMASH 3000 is a game-changer in modern warfare and security, delivering unmatched precision and operational effectiveness.

Revolutionising Fire Control Technology

The SMASH 3000 integrates SmartShooters proprietary target acquisition and tracking algorithms with sophisticated image-processing software, creating a lightweight, easy-to-use, and cost-effective solution. This system enhances force lethality, ensuring soldiers and security personnel maintain a decisive tactical advantage in dynamic combat scenarios.

The British Army has selected the SMASH X4 Smart Weapon Sight Fire Control System to counter evolving drone threats, underscoring its strategic importance. An initial order was placed to enhance Counter-Small Uncrewed Air Systems (C-sUAS) capabilities. The sights will be issued to high-readiness units across the Army, Navy, and RAF.

Soldier from 16 Air Assault Brigade Combat Team trialed out the newly issued SmartShooter SMASH, Smart Weapon Sight Fire Control System, from the standing firing position down at Fingeringhoe Ranges on the 5th of March 2024. Paratroopers are taking aim with a new sight that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to help them shoot drones out of the sky. 16 Air Assault Brigade, as the Armys highest readiness formation, is the first to be issued with the new SmartShooter SMASH Smart Weapon Sight Fire Contro

Combat-Proven Effectiveness

The SMASH series has been extensively tested and deployed by global defence forces. 16 Air Assault Brigade Combat Team, the British Armys highest readiness unit, has integrated the SMASH X4 into their arsenal, using it to counter enemy dronesa significant and growing battlefield threat, particularly in conflicts like Ukraine.

During trials, the 2 YORKS Experimentation Battalion evaluated the SMASH X4 and SMASH 2000L (precursor to the 3000), confirming their effectiveness in engaging fast-moving aerial and ground threats. The system ensures a shooters trigger will only engage when perfectly aligned, dramatically improving accuracy and reducing collateral damage.

Strategic Partnership with Viking Arms

Viking Arms, the UKs exclusive distributor of SmartShooters systems, is at the forefront of delivering next-generation targeting solutions to the UK Armed Forces. The company plays a critical role in equipping dismounted close combat operators with advanced technology, ensuring they stay ahead of evolving threats.

According to Wing Commander Mark Bowden, from the Counter-UAS Programmes Directorate, the SMASH system offers a crucial tactical advantage: As we have seen in Ukraine and other operational areas, the UAS threat is growing significantly. Alongside procuring and deploying this technology, we must ensure our Armed Forces can counter adversarial drone use.”

Viking Arms Engages Future Talent at the 3rd Annual Cadet Careers Fair

On Saturday, 8th February 2025, Viking Arms had the privilege of attending the 3rd Annual Cadet Careers Fair at York College & University Centre. This inspiring event, organised by Simon Banks-Cooper, Honorary Colonel of Humberside and South Yorkshire ACF, along with staff from the RFCA for Yorkshire and the Humber, marked the beginning of National Apprenticeship Week 2025. With over 55 employers from across the region exhibiting, the event provided an invaluable opportunity for cadets from Yorkshire and the Humber to explore career pathways and work experience opportunities.

With 53 exhibitors covering a broad spectrum of industries, Viking Arms stood out by offering an interactive experience for cadets. Our Glock training software proved to be a massive success once again, drawing crowds of eager participants keen to test their skills. This year, we took engagement to the next level by introducing a competition that allowed cadets to enter a challenge: Best of 5, recorded on a Viking Arms scorecard, which also included a QR link to our website for them to take away. At 1 PM, the winner was announced and received a special Glock goodie bag.

The enthusiasm was palpable, with queues of cadets and their superiors lining up to take part. While only cadets were eligible to enter the competition, the buzz and excitement around our stand were undeniable. Seeing the competitive spirit and determination of these young individuals reinforced the importance of events like this in fostering future talent.

The Cadet Careers Fair is not just an opportunity for businesses to showcase their industriesit serves as a vital bridge between aspiring professionals and potential employers. Viking Arms is deeply grateful to Yorkshire RFCA for inviting our team to participate in such a meaningful event. By engaging with cadets directly, we had the chance to highlight career opportunities within the defence and firearms industry, demonstrating how their discipline, teamwork, and problem-solving skills can translate into real-world careers.
