Supporting the Next Generation of Military Engineers at 3 RSME Regiment

May 27, 2025

Earlier this month, the Viking Arms Defence team visited 3 Royal School of Military Engineering Regiment (3 RSME Regt) at Gibraltar Barracks, Minley, to deliver a hands-on equipment experience for the British Army’s next generation of Sappers.

3 RSME Regt plays a critical role in delivering combat engineer training, junior command development, and wider support to the Royal Engineers — shaping soldiers who will be vital to the success of future operations. The Regiment’s mission is clear: to produce well-trained and highly motivated military engineers ready to meet the operational demands of Defence.

As part of our ongoing commitment to community engagement and improving defence understanding, Viking Arms Defence was proud to provide a practical demonstration of the Glock range of pistols and showcase some of the latest defence equipment in our offering. Sappers had the opportunity to get hands-on with the Glock platform on the range and discuss its functionality, performance, and role within wider operational capabilities.

This visit formed part of our wider programme of direct engagement with units across the UK Armed Forces. By connecting with those at the frontline of training and operations, we’re able to ensure that our solutions align with real-world needs — and help to inform procurement, capability development, and defence readiness.

Viking Arms Defence team visited 3 Royal School of Military Engineering Regiment (3 RSME Regt) at Gibraltar Barracks, Minley, to deliver a hands-on equipment experience for the British Army’s next generation of Sappers.

We’d like to thank the team at 3 RSME Regt for their warm welcome and their continued commitment to excellence in military engineering. It was a privilege to spend time with such a dedicated team, and we look forward to further collaboration in the future.

Viking Arms Engages Future Talent at the 3rd Annual Cadet Careers Fair

February 14, 2025

On Saturday, 8th February 2025, Viking Arms had the privilege of attending the 3rd Annual Cadet Careers Fair at York College & University Centre. This inspiring event, organised by Simon Banks-Cooper, Honorary Colonel of Humberside and South Yorkshire ACF, along with staff from the RFCA for Yorkshire and the Humber, marked the beginning of National Apprenticeship Week 2025. With over 55 employers from across the region exhibiting, the event provided an invaluable opportunity for cadets from Yorkshire and the Humber to explore career pathways and work experience opportunities.

Representing Viking Arms at the event were:

  • Rich Fell, Glock firearms specialist
  • Charles Robinson, Finance Controller
  • Kim Marland, Operations Manager

With 53 exhibitors covering a broad spectrum of industries, Viking Arms stood out by offering an interactive experience for cadets. Our Glock training software proved to be a massive success once again, drawing crowds of eager participants keen to test their skills. This year, we took engagement to the next level by introducing a competition that allowed cadets to enter a challenge: Best of 5, recorded on a Viking Arms scorecard, which also included a QR link to our website for them to take away. At 1 PM, the winner was announced and received a special Glock ‘goodie bag’.

The enthusiasm was palpable, with queues of cadets and their superiors lining up to take part. While only cadets were eligible to enter the competition, the buzz and excitement around our stand were undeniable. Seeing the competitive spirit and determination of these young individuals reinforced the importance of events like this in fostering future talent.

The Cadet Careers Fair is not just an opportunity for businesses to showcase their industries—it serves as a vital bridge between aspiring professionals and potential employers. Viking Arms is deeply grateful to Yorkshire RFCA for inviting our team to participate in such a meaningful event. By engaging with cadets directly, we had the chance to highlight career opportunities within the defence and firearms industry, demonstrating how their discipline, teamwork, and problem-solving skills can translate into real-world careers.

Simon Banks-Cooper, founder of the Cadet Careers Fair, shared his thoughts on why cadets are uniquely prepared for the workplace:

“Employers and entrepreneurs recognise that it’s not just academic qualifications that are key to employability. Wider experiences, generic skills, and emotional intelligence contribute to making a young person work-ready.

The cadet experience offers the development of these invaluable attributes, boosting cadets’ self-efficacy, esteem, and confidence—qualities that employers seek when recruiting. Businesses and organisations attending today’s fair understand that our cadets are prepared for a wide range of opportunities and receptive to all the professional pathways available. We are very pleased that the Cadet Careers Fair is now in its third year, and we expect continued growth in interest and engagement.”

At Viking Arms, we take pride in playing an active role in shaping the future of young professionals. Our presence at the Cadet Careers Fair is a reflection of our ongoing commitment to the UK’s armed forces and the individuals who dedicate themselves to service. As a proud signatory of the UK MOD’s Armed Forces Covenant and a Silver ERS award holder, we are dedicated to supporting veterans, cadets, and service leavers in their career development.

Rich Fell, Viking Arms’ Glock expert, expressed why events like this are so important:

“Viking Arms is proud to support the Cadet Careers Fair. Events like this provide an opportunity to inspire and empower cadets who are eager to shape their futures. As a forces-friendly employer, supporting the cadets aligns with our commitment to fostering a future workforce of skilled, disciplined, and motivated individuals who are prepared to excel in the workplace and drive our company’s success.”

The 3rd Annual Cadet Careers Fair was a resounding success, and we at Viking Arms are already looking forward to next year’s event. Seeing the passion and enthusiasm from cadets eager to learn and grow reaffirms our belief in the importance of investing in the next generation.

A huge thank you to Yorkshire RFCA for organising such an impactful event and to all the cadets who visited our stand. We are excited about what the future holds and remain committed to supporting cadets as they take their next steps towards rewarding careers.

Viking Arms Ltd. Awarded UK MoD R9GSP Contract

November 14, 2012

We are proud to announce that Viking Arms Ltd. have been awarded the contract to supply the UK MoD with a new general service pistol and holster system.
The contract, which was signed off by Col Peter Walden from DE&S, LWPB Abby Wood, at our new Glock Training Centre last month, is to supply the the latest Glock, Generation 4, G17, 9mm pistol along with a Radar holster system and retentive lanyard.
The Glock Gen 4 G17 pistol designated L131-A1, will replace the current general service pistol, the Browning L9A1 and also the Sig 226, currently in service in theatre in Afghanistan, in early 2013.  The Glock G17, Gen 4 is the latest generation of the venerated G17 pistol and through the exacting  and rigorous trials demanded by the UK MoD has proved itself to be a world class beating sidearm.
Radar 1957 an Italian holster manufacturer is to manufacture the new holster.
Viking Arms will supply the new RDC holster alongside the Glock pistols in early 2013, manufactured in a high resistant polyform and supplied in Coyote Brown; the holster will offer a system to include drop leg and molle platforms along with a lanyard and magazine pouches.

Glock Generation 4 – G17 Pistol

November 14, 2012

The Gen4, just like any other Glock pistol has the same time tested “Safe Action” system with a durable exterior finish, cold hammer forged barrel, combined with durability, reliability and light weight.
All the features that make Glock firearms famous.
The new Gen4 has several new features designed to satisfy the most demanding customers, even the British Army and its elite forces!
It is based on a MBS (Multiple Back Strap) frame with a reduced short frame trigger mechanism housing. The multiple back strap system allows the user to change the circumference of the grip to fit their individual hand size. The grip can be altered to suit all hand sizes by the simple fitting of backstraps (medium or large). The pistol comes standard as  a small frame then by clipping either a medium or large backstrap and securing by a single pin the grip size can be altered by up to 4mm.
The grip angle of the Glock “Safe Action” pistol is not altered by the back strap modifications. This ensures that the operator does not shoot high or low when modifying the back strap or when shooting with a different Glock pistol.
The shortest trigger reach option available with the new frame, without back straps is 2mm/0.08in less than the standard Gen3 frame. Mounting the medium back strap adds an additional 2mm/0.08in bringing it back to the original size of the Gen3 frame. Adding the large back strap, increases the Gen4 frame by 4mm/0.16in which will accommodate even the largest of hands.
This feature not only caters for operator use, but allows Police and Military authorities to cater for the differences in their operators individual hand sizes and could mitigate any possible future litigation associated with the user and size of weapon.
Another modification is the magazine catch which is reversible to accommodate left handed operators and has been enlarge for ease of operation, this and Glock’s new Rough Texture Frame (Gen4RTF) surface which is designed to enhance grip traction without being too aggressive, makes this pistol a benchmark for all other manufactures to aspire too.
For further information and to arrange a demonstration, please contact Nigel@vikingarms.com or phone Viking Arms on 01423 780 810.
